Begonia species u485
Humidity Requirements: 80%
Lighting: Bright, indirect lighting to partial shade
Grown and propagated in our Florida greenhouse
Begonia u485 was one of the very first begonias we ever propagated way back in 2010, and remains one of my favorites. The dark, nearly black leaves are covered in tiny white speckles, and show some of the most intense blue iridescence of any begonia under certain conditions. U485 is notoriously fussy, but is actually quite a stable plant when properly cared for. Like most begonias it kind of likes being pot bound, and kind of hates heat. Unlike most begonias, it has no problem being slightly damp all the time. Our stock plant actually lives beneath one of our benches, in a spot that never really dries out. This makes it a great terrarium plant, as long as you have the room for a medium sized begonia in your terrarium.
Keeping it as a houseplant will often result in leaf edge crisping, and the eventual decline of the plant.
